Some people think parents should/ should not give money to their children.
Many
parents consider giving a weekly allowance to their children
a normal
practice. However there is an opinion that children are not
mature enough to
deal with money and this will only spoil them. Who
is right?
I am of the opinion that
youngsters should have some sum of money
for their own spending. First of all,
it would be irresponsible of parents
if they did not provide money for such
essential expanses such as lunch
at school or transportation fees. Moreover,
children are likely to feel
more confident if they have some extra money to buy
some snack or
stationary they may need. What is more, having to decide how to
spend
money effectively a child learns about its value and grow to appreciate
it.
Nevertheless, the opponents of this view claim that pocket money
can do
nothing but spoil offspring. They will buy unnecessary items such
as sweets.
Furthermore, there is a risk that they will get used to receiving
an allowance and will take it for granted.
Although they may be partly right, I
do not see any harm in providing
children with small amount of money. Through
practising to allocate, save
it up
and invest their allowance they will become sensible with money.
To sum up, I
firmly believe that it is parent’s duty to help children to
understand
the meaning of money. There is no better way to do this than
to let them be
fully responsible for a small amount of money provided on
a daily basis.
